Fitness enthusiast and reviewer from Berlin

The Short Version

I go by Lukas Schmidt, based in Berlin, and for several years I have been chronicling my time at workout clubs throughout Germany.

This site came about after tiring of selecting gyms from ads and unclear suggestions, only to find that the truth didn't match expectations. I wanted clear, truthful details about what these venues were really like. Not finding them, I chose to build them myself.

How This Started

My fitness routine began at a small gym near Fitnessstrasse 12 in Berlin. It wasn't perfect, yet it was approachable, reasonably priced, and helped me stay consistent.

When that place closed, I saw how fast the fitness landscape in Germany was changing. New gyms opened, new ideas emerged, and marketing grew louder than actual member experiences.

I began testing various gyms and classes, jotting notes after each visit. Over time those notes became this site, created to help others make better-informed choices.

My Approach to Reviews

Each review here is based on actual visits and time spent within the facility. I concentrate on practical details that matter when selecting a membership.

When evaluating a fitness center, I usually:

  • Invest enough time to grasp routines, peak times, and trends
  • Visit on various days and at different times
  • Experiment with more than one training format and trainer
  • Regularly use facilities to assess cleanliness and comfort
  • Talk with other members about what's consistent and what's not
  • Take notes right after each visit

I refresh reviews when significant changes occur: renovations, management shifts, price changes, or new facilities. Each article displays its last update date so you can gauge currency.

What I Look For

My priorities may differ from yours, so here is what matters most to me when assessing a gym:

Comfort and privacy: Does the space feel genuinely well-designed for members, with respectful boundaries and a calm atmosphere?

Equipment Quality: Are machines well-maintained? Is there enough variety? Do things get fixed promptly?

Crowd Management: Can you actually train during your preferred time without waiting constantly?

Clean Facilities: Locker rooms, showers, floors, and equipment surfaces. Cleanliness shows how seriously management treats the member experience.

Honest Membership Practices: Clear pricing, clear rules, and no unpleasant surprises.

Beyond the Gym

Outside of training and writing, I live and work in Berlin. This project is here to make fitness choices easier and more transparent for people looking for the right environment.
